What is one of the most important components of web development, one that no online business would survive without? Three words – Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short. Search Engine Optimization is something most amateur web developers would ignore, but this is a rookie mistake. SEO determines where you rank on search engine result pages, and that determines how much traffic you receive.
Think about it, how many times have you found yourself venturing into “page 2” of the Google search results page?
Different studies have reported that the first page sees between 75% – 90% of all search traffic clicks, whereas the second pages receive as little as 6%. The first search result captures around 30% of all clicks.
So what are the implications of this? Well, to put it quite simply, you can’t afford to end up on the second or third page of Google, or whatever search engine that you use. To be able to rank higher, you need to follow the protocols of Search Engine Optimization, and here’s how.
It is very important to use keywords in your content when considering SEO for the gambling business. Keywords are terms that are relevant to your content, that you think people will be searching. A keyword for your business would be “online casino,” for instance. Try to incorporate keywords into your website without trying to sound like a malfunctioning robot.
Also, try to incorporate a healthy mix of short-tailed and long-tailed keywords. Short-tailed keywords have maybe around one to two words, like “free bets” or “deposit bonus.” A long-tailed keyword, like its name, would suggest, comprises of a couple of words, around three to five – “Play your favorite casino games” for example.
Put keywords everywhere, your URL, metadata, content, your ALT tags, etc.
Another criteria that Google takes into consideration for ranking websites is whether or not your site is suitable for mobile browsing. With more people buying smartphone all over the world, it’s only natural that they would be using their handheld devices to access the internet.
Studies show that over 50% of website traffic worldwide was generated through mobile phones in 2018, and this figure will inevitably increase in the years to come. Given how convenient it is, you’re losing out on a considerable amount of traffic if your gambling website is not optimized for mobile browsing.
Page speed is critical. A slow loading page is an absolute turn-off. Not only will you lose traffic, but you will also rank lower on search engines. Remove anything from your website that is slowing it down. Get rid of any dead links, or anything that might be causing it to lag, and give your bettors the best user experience possible.
Let’s face it, and not everyone likes to read lengthy drawn-out descriptions. An excellent alternative to this is audio-visual content. Quick videos, attractive pictures, and well-illustrated infographics will not only improve user retention and loyalty, but it will also positively impact your rankings.
Links are also important criteria that determine where your website ranks on search engines. First of all, you’ll need to use internal links. These are links that take the user that clicks on them to a different page on your domain. External links also factor into your ranking.
Inbound links are those that link to your website from a different domain, and outbound links are those that relate to a different site from your domain. The more links you have, the more credible you’re deemed to be, and therefore, you will place higher.
